About Us

Our Teachers

With an array of fun-filled activities, our preschool child development program focuses on building cognitive performance through child-initiated, cooperative play. Our teachers introduce these active and enthusiastic learners to a more structured curriculum and new academic concepts in language, literacy, mathematics, and science. Our staff have a commitment to continuous professional development in early childhood education. Many of them are attending school to work on degrees, and ALL staff are certified in CPR & First Aid.

Meet the Grandma’s Touch Childcare Family!

Mrs. Tonya Maurice – Program Director

My name is Tonya Brown Maurice. Since its inception, I have been the director at Grandma’s Touch, first as a Family Care Center then expanding to an Early Learning Center for a total of thirteen years. At Grandma’s Touch, I have been a teacher for infants and toddlers up to pre-school. I have thirty years of teaching experience, not only in early child care but also in the local school system. I hold a Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and am also certified in education. “Tell me, and I forget, Teach me, and I remember, Involve me, and I learn” by Benjamin Franklin. This quote is what inspired me as a director. As a director, you get to make decisions that affect what and how the children are taught in that center at that time in their life. My goal for the center is to have a successful establishment that caters to the children and gives them a burning desire to know. Secondly, the staff is happy to come to work and have a positive outlook for the children’s success. Thirdly, the parents feel comfortable about leaving their children at Grandma’s Touch.

Lead Teacher

My name is Loel Russell, and I have been at Grandma’s Touch Child Care Center for one year, working with the one-year-olds. I have ten years of working in the early childhood system. Since I have been working with one-year-olds, my favorite activities incorporate physical growth and development. The children become elated when they learn something new, and it fills my heart with joy how excited they are when we do new physical activities. My hobbies are reading and painting by numbers. I am the mother of two daughters, and I love being a grandmother watching my grandchildren go through different stages of development and explaining to their parents why they are doing what they are doing at the time. As I observe my babies daily in activities, it reminds me of this quote by Mark Van, which says, “The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.”

My name Is Terrion, and I have been a preschool teacher for almost 4years. I have been at Grandma’s Touch daycare for 7months. Children are my pride and joy; I love being able to help them develop fundamental early childhood skills that they can take throughout their lives. My motivation for becoming a teacher is my mother. My mother was a preschool teacher for ten years until she was diagnosed with epilepsy and could no longer care for children. My mother’s love for children inspired me to follow in her teaching footsteps, and I fell in love with it. I’m currently attending Delgado college to receive my degree in early childhood education. My hobbies are anything creative. I am very artsy and love having my students participate in fun art activities.

Lead Teacher

Cathy Rogers and I have worked at Grandma’s Touch child Care Center for seven years. In the seven years working at Grandma’s Touch, I have worked with all of the children from zero to five years old. I believe that children need a solid foundation to have a successful education career, and that’s what I strive to give every child that I work with. As a teacher, I know that I have done my job when I see that the child can apply what I have taught them. Watching them grow and learn academically and socially is why I teach.
